Dragomino is the children's version of Kingdomino, for 2 to 4 players aged 5 and up. You pick a landscape tile, add it to your island, and each time matching landscapes touch you turn over a dragon egg to see whether a baby dragon hatches. It needs no reading, a game lasts about 15 to 20 minutes, and it won Germany's Kinderspiel des Jahres (children's game of the year) in 2021. It is hard to buy in India right now: Gameistry listed it at ₹2,750 but out of stock on 5 October 2026, and Amazon.in had only imported copies at several times the store price.

Is Dragomino right for your table?

A good pick for

  • Five- and six-year-olds who are ready for a real game with turns and choices, but not yet for scoring maths
  • Children who like the look of Kingdomino but are too young for its multiplication scoring
  • Parents who want to play too: each turn has a small decision about which tile to take and where to put it, and there is a bit of probability to think about
  • A gift with a strong record: it won the Kinderspiel des Jahres in 2021

Skip it if

  • Your child is 8 or older. Kingdomino is marked 8+, gives them more to think about and costs ₹600 in Bored Game Company's Indian edition
  • You need it soon. No trusted Indian store had it in stock on 5 October 2026
  • Your children want noise and action. This is a calm, quiet game

How Dragomino plays

Each player puts a starting domino in front of them; this is the beginning of your island. Four exploration dominoes are laid face up in the middle of the table. Every domino has two squares of landscape, chosen from six types: desert, snow, prairie, forest, mountain and volcano. The egg tokens are sorted into a pile for each landscape, egg side up.

The player holding the Mommy Dragon figure, who is the youngest player at the start, picks a domino first, and the others follow clockwise. You add your domino to your island so that it touches a domino you have already placed.

For every side where the same landscape meets on your island, you take an egg from that landscape's pile and turn it over. It is either a baby dragon, worth 1 point, or an empty shell. An empty shell isn't all bad news: you take the Mommy Dragon, which means you choose first next round.

Each landscape's pile hides exactly 7 baby dragons, but the piles are different sizes, from 14 eggs for desert down to 9 for volcano. Matching rarer landscapes like volcano therefore gives you a better chance of a dragon, which older players can take into account when choosing tiles.

When all 28 exploration dominoes have been placed, everyone counts their baby dragons, and whoever has the Mommy Dragon gets 1 extra point. The most points wins; if there is a tie, the player with more empty shells wins. The rulebook also has a variant called Dragon's Thirst, in which matching next to a water pond lets you draw two eggs and keep one.

Takes about 5 minutes to teach. There is no text on the dominoes or the egg tokens. An adult reads the rules once, and after that a child who can't read yet can play. The only counting is adding up baby dragons at the end.

Buying Dragomino in India

There is no Indian edition. Toycra carries Kingdomino and several other Blue Orange games, but it did not list Dragomino on 5 October 2026. Gamebae (gamebae.in), which describes itself as Blue Orange's official licensee in India, did not list it either; its catalogue of about two dozen items is mostly Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza and other Blue Orange card games. For now the realistic option is to wait for Gameistry to restock at ₹2,750, or to ask Toycra or Gamebae whether they can bring it in. An expensive import on Amazon.in is not worth paying.

Blue Orange makes the only edition. In the US it is sold as 'My First Kingdomino: Dragomino' (item 09011), and European shops list a multilingual box with barcode 3664824000775. In India, Gameistry lists Dragomino at ₹2,750, out of stock, without saying which box it is. Board Games India has an 'on demand' Dragomino page at ₹9,999, also out of stock, with the brand shown as 'Yes Papa Games' rather than Blue Orange. We could not confirm that edition, so it is not in the price list. Amazon.in had only imported copies at several times the store price. The grown-up Kingdomino (8+) is easy to find in comparison: Bored Game Company sells its own Indian edition for ₹600.

How to make sure you get a genuine copy

Clone risk: Low
  • Look for the Blue Orange logo and the designers' names, Bruno Cathala and Marie and Wilfried Fort, on the box.
  • Check the contents: 4 starting dominoes, 28 exploration dominoes, 69 egg tokens and 1 Mommy Dragon figure.
  • Turn over the egg tokens for one landscape: each landscape's pile should hold exactly 7 baby dragons, with the rest empty shells.
  • Check the name. Other dragon-themed board games on Amazon.in have similar-sounding names but are different games.
  • Compare the price. Gameistry listed the genuine game at ₹2,750. A 'Dragomino' far cheaper than that from an unfamiliar brand would be a warning sign.

Amazon.in searches on 5 October 2026 found no cheap Dragomino copies; the only listing was a very expensive import. In India the bigger risk with this game is overpaying, not buying a fake.

Questions people ask about Dragomino

Is Dragomino available in India?

Only just. Gameistry lists it at ₹2,750 but it was out of stock on 5 October 2026, and Amazon.in had only imported copies at several times the store price. Neither Toycra nor Gamebae, the two Indian sellers linked to Blue Orange, listed it, so it is worth asking them or Gameistry about stock.

Should I buy Dragomino or Kingdomino?

Dragomino is made for ages 5 to 7: you only match landscapes and count baby dragons. Kingdomino is marked 8+ and uses multiplication to score. For a 7- or 8-year-old, Kingdomino is the better buy in India, since Bored Game Company's edition costs ₹600 and is much easier to find.

Can a 4-year-old play Dragomino?

The box says 5 and up. Each turn only asks a child to match pictures of landscapes, so a 4-year-old may be able to join in with an adult helping them choose and place tiles, but the game is designed for 5 and older.

Does my child need to read or count to play Dragomino?

No reading is needed: there is no text on the dominoes or eggs. The only counting is adding up baby dragon tokens at the end, and an adult can help with that.

Prototype notes for review (won't appear on the live site)
  • Amazon match: exact link, medium confidence. Listing title seen: "DRAGOMINO - Box Game".
  • How it was found: COMPOSIO_SEARCH_AMAZON on amazon.in, 5 October 2026, queries 'Dragomino Blue Orange', 'Dragomino' and 'Dragomino board game for kids dragon eggs'. B08BZFF5TX was the only Dragomino listing: ₹20,879 (MRP ₹37,582), rated 4.8 from 908 ratings. Confidence is medium because the title carries no brand and the price is more than seven times Gameistry's ₹2,750. Do not pay that price for a children's game.
  • Seller and edition of Amazon.in listing B08BZFF5TX. Amazon pages were not opened, per policy. The title has no brand; Blue Orange comes from the listing's URL slug.
  • Gameistry does not say which box it sells, and its ₹2,750 was recorded while out of stock. Text read from Gameistry's product image ('Bruno Cathala / Marie et Wilfried Fort') suggests a European-language box, but this was not confirmed.
  • Board Games India's 'on demand' Dragomino page (₹9,999, out of stock) shows the brand as 'Yes Papa Games'. We could not explain this, so the listing is left out of 'stores' and the price range.
  • Rules were read from Blue Orange's Italian rulebook through a translation tool, together with Blue Orange's US page. The rulebook's egg count (69 tokens, 7 dragons per landscape) is used; one third-party rules summary gave a different total. Rules specific to 2 or 3 players, such as how many dominoes each player takes per round, were not confirmed, so the text describes the general rules only.
  • Play time: Blue Orange says 15 minutes and Wikipedia says 15–20 minutes. time_max uses 20.
  • The 2021 Kinderspiel des Jahres win comes from Wikipedia.
  • Gamebae's catalogue was read from its public products list (24 items, none of them Dragomino) on 5 October 2026. Its claim to be Blue Orange's official licensee in India was not checked.
  • The product image is Gameistry's product photo. A small thumbnail was viewed and shows the Dragomino box front at an angle.
  • best_players ('2-4') is an editorial placeholder; it was not tested with a group.
  • The slugs hoot-owl-hoot and rhino-hero are batch 3 pages being written at the same time; their details were not checked here.
