7 Wonders is a card-drafting game for 3 to 7 players aged 10 and up. Over three rounds you pick one card from your hand, pass the rest to a neighbour and slowly build an ancient city and its wonder. Everyone plays at the same time, so a game stays at about 30 minutes even with seven, which makes it a good step up for families and friend groups who have outgrown UNO or Sequence. On 5 October 2026 the current second edition was ₹5,900–₹5,999 at Indian specialist stores.

Is 7 Wonders right for your table?

A good pick for

  • Groups of five to seven who want a real strategy game without long waits between turns
  • Families with teenagers who are ready for something deeper than Monopoly
  • Players who enjoy building something over the game and watching it pay off at the end
  • Tables where people speak different languages, once everyone has learnt the icons

Skip it if

  • You usually play as two – the base game needs at least three, and 7 Wonders Duel is the two-player version
  • Your group wants chatter, bluffing or deal-making – play is quiet, and you mostly deal with your two neighbours
  • First-timers who dislike icon-heavy cards – expect to check the effects sheet often in your first game

How 7 Wonders plays

Each player gets a Wonder board for one of seven ancient cities, such as Babylon, Olympia or the Colossus of Rhodes. The board gives you a starting resource and shows two to four Wonder stages you can build, with a Day side and a harder Night side. Everyone starts with 3 coins.

The game has three rounds, called Ages. At the start of each Age everyone is dealt seven cards. You all secretly choose one card, reveal at the same time and pass the rest of your hand to a neighbour: to the left in Ages I and III, to the right in Age II. On the sixth turn you get two cards; you play one and discard the other.

With the card you picked you do one of three things: build it, tuck it under your board to complete the next stage of your Wonder, or sell it for 3 coins. If you lack a resource you can buy it from a neighbour for 2 coins. Some later buildings are free if you already built the earlier building they chain from.

The card colours point to different plans. Brown and grey cards give resources, blue cards give points, yellow cards give coins and trading perks, red cards add military strength, green cards give science symbols, and purple guilds in Age III score in special ways. At the end of each Age you compare military strength with both neighbours and take victory or defeat tokens.

After Age III you add up points for your Wonder, coins (1 point per 3 coins), military tokens and your blue, yellow, green and purple cards. Science scores both for sets of the same symbol and for sets of three different symbols. The highest total wins; if there's a tie, the player with more coins wins.

Takes about 15 minutes to teach. Card effects are shown as icons, not sentences, and every colour also has its own symbol for colour-blind players. Card names and the rulebook are in English, and the box includes Description of Effects sheets that explain each icon. Once players learn the symbols, nobody needs to read during play.

Buying 7 Wonders in India

There is no Indian edition, and no official Indian distributor for Repos Production or Asmodee turned up, so every copy is an imported English box. On 5 October 2026 Bored Game Company had the second edition (SKU SV01EN) in stock at ₹5,999, and Gameistry listed it at ₹5,900 but was out of stock. Amazon.in had only imported copies at more than twice the store price, so check the specialist stores first.

Repos Production released 7 Wonders in 2010 and a second edition in 2020. The second edition has refreshed graphics, adjusted card costs, reworked Olympia and Babylon boards and a changed guild. It is the version stores sell now and the one to buy. The first-edition box still shows up on Amazon.in (B0043KJW5M), but only as an expensive import. The Leaders, Cities and Armada expansions were also reworked for the second edition, so buy expansions marked for the new edition; Edifice is another. 7 Wonders Duel (2015, Antoine Bauza and Bruno Cathala) is a separate game for exactly two players. It cost ₹3,199 at Bored Game Company (in stock) and at Gameistry (out of stock); Amazon.in had only imported copies at about twice the store price. 7 Wonders Architects is a lighter, family-friendly game for 2 to 7 players, listed at ₹5,350 at Gameistry (out of stock).

How to make sure you get a genuine copy

Clone risk: High
  • The box front should show the 7 Wonders logo and 'Antoine Bauza', with the Repos Production logo on the box. Listings under unrelated toy brands, or with generic titles such as '7 Wonders Board Game, Strategy and War Theme', are not official.
  • Price check: genuine second-edition copies were ₹5,900–₹5,999 at Indian specialist stores on 5 October 2026. A new '7 Wonders' at ₹2,500–₹3,000 with no reviews is a strong warning sign.
  • Count the contents: 7 Wonder boards, 148 Age cards (49 for Age I, 49 for Age II, 50 for Age III), 78 coins, 48 Military Conflict tokens, a score pad, three Description of Effects sheets, a list of cards and chains, and the rulebook.
  • Each card back shows its Age and passing direction, and each front has a small colour-blind symbol and a minimum player count. Copies often blur or drop these small icons.
  • Overseas retailers list the English second edition with barcode 5425016924006, and its rules are coded SEV-EN02. If you're unsure about a listing, ask the seller for a photo of the barcode and the MRP/importer sticker.

Amazon.in searches on 5 October 2026 turned up no-review listings under generic or unrelated brand names at under half the specialist-store price, and Flipkart showed a '7 WONDERS' board game from an unrelated kids' brand. Buy from a specialist store, or from a listing whose code (SV01EN) and box art match the publisher's.

Questions people ask about 7 Wonders

Can 7 Wonders be played with 2 players?

The current second-edition base game is for 3 to 7 players. For two, buy 7 Wonders Duel, a separate game designed for exactly two; it was ₹3,199 at Bored Game Company on 5 October 2026.

Should I buy 7 Wonders or 7 Wonders Duel?

It depends on how many people usually play. 7 Wonders works from three up to seven players and shines with bigger groups, while Duel is only for two. Many couples own Duel; families and friend groups usually get more out of the original.

What is the difference between the first and second edition of 7 Wonders?

The 2020 second edition has updated art, tweaked card costs, changes to some Wonder boards and one changed guild. The way you play is the same. Its expansions were reworked too, so match your expansions to your edition.

Is 7 Wonders too hard for children?

The box says 10 and up. The turns are simple, but there are many icons to learn and several ways to score, so the first game takes a while. For younger children, 7 Wonders Architects is a lighter game from the same family.

  • Amazon match: exact link, high confidence. Listing title seen: "7 Wonders".
  • How it was found: COMPOSIO_SEARCH_AMAZON on amazon.in, 5 Oct 2026, with the queries '7 Wonders board game', '7 Wonders board game second edition Repos Production' and '7 wonders card game'. They returned B08F65MX4L at ₹14,623 (listed MRP ₹14,999), 4.8 stars and 3,100 reviews. The first edition also appeared: B0043KJW5M ('Repos Productions 7 Wonders Board Game') at ₹14,039 with 2,600 reviews. The query 'Repos Production 7 Wonders new edition 3-7 players' returned only the ₹2,999 generic listing. The Amazon price is about 2.4 times the Indian specialist-store price.
  • The barcode 5425016924006 comes from overseas retailer listings for the English second edition. It was not checked on a box sold in India.

  • Whether Bored Game Company or anyone else is an authorised Repos Production or Asmodee distributor in India was not confirmed.
  • Board Games India could not be checked because of its bot check. Toycra, Tabletop Universe, Crossword and Funskool searches did not show the game, and no Hamleys or FirstCry listing was found. The Flipkart listings seen had unrelated brands or no confirmed seller, so they were left out.
