Exploding Kittens is a fast, silly card game for 2 to 5 players: everyone draws from one shared deck, and whoever pulls an Exploding Kitten without a Defuse card is out. It suits families with children aged 7 and up, cousins at a get-together, and anyone who wants a game that takes five minutes to learn and about fifteen to play. In India, the officially licensed edition is made locally by Bored Game Company and sold as 'Exploding Kittens aka Billi Boom Boom'.

Is Exploding Kittens right for your table?

A good pick for

  • Mixed-age tables, because kids and grandparents can learn it in one round
  • Filling 15 minutes before dinner or between longer games
  • A light extra game for Diwali card nights
  • Travel, since it is just a small box of cards

Skip it if

  • Someone at your table hates being knocked out early and waiting for the round to finish
  • You want deep strategy, because the luck of the draw decides a lot
  • You regularly have more than 5 players and don't want to buy the Party Pack or an expansion

How Exploding Kittens plays

The goal is simple: be the last player who hasn't exploded. The deck hides Exploding Kittens, one fewer than the number of players, so every round someone gets knocked out until only one person is left.

Everyone starts with a hand of seven cards plus one Defuse card. On your turn you can play as many cards from your hand as you like, or none at all. Then you must draw one card from the top of the deck, and that ends your turn.

If you draw an Exploding Kitten, you are out, unless you have a Defuse card. Play it, and you get to secretly slide the kitten back into the deck wherever you like. Putting it right near the top is a handy way to trap the next player.

The other cards help you avoid drawing or mess with your friends. Skip ends your turn without drawing. Attack makes the next player take two turns. See the Future lets you peek at the top three cards, Shuffle mixes the deck, and Favor makes someone give you a card. Nope cancels almost any action, even when it isn't your turn. A matching pair of cat cards lets you steal a random card from another player.

A round usually lasts around 15 minutes, so most groups play several in a row and keep score informally.

Takes about 5 minutes to teach. Card names and short instructions are in English. The jokes on the cards are in English too, but you only need to know what each card does, and that is easy to pick up after one round.

Buying Exploding Kittens in India

There is a local edition. Bored Game Company, the publishing and distribution arm of Pune-based Band of Capes, makes an officially licensed Original Edition in India. On 4 October 2026 it sold for about ₹940-1,130 against an MRP of ₹1,200, and Bored Game Company's site says it delivers to major Indian cities in 3-5 working days. Imported US copies cost more: Board Games India lists one at ₹2,000, though it was out of stock. For most buyers, the Indian licensed edition is the sensible choice.

Start with the Original Edition (56 cards, 2-5 players). In India, Bored Game Company sells an officially licensed, Indian-made Original Edition (MRP ₹1,200) and also lists an officially licensed Party Pack. The publisher also makes a collectible tin version, a 2-Player Version, an adults-only NSFW deck and a 10th Anniversary edition. Expansions include Imploding Kittens, Streaking Kittens and Barking Kittens. Board Games India lists the 2-Player Version, Imploding Kittens, Recipes for Disaster, Good vs Evil and Zombie Kittens, but all were out of stock when checked.

How to make sure you get a genuine copy

Clone risk: High
  • Check the brand. It should be Bored Game Company for the Indian edition or Exploding Kittens LLC for imports. Several Amazon.in search results list 'Exploding Kittens' under other brand names, and those come from neither company.
  • Check the price. The licensed Indian edition has an MRP of ₹1,200 and sells for about ₹900-1,150. Be wary of a deck priced at ₹300-500, or a listing showing a very high MRP with 60-70% off.
  • Check the listing details. The Indian edition is described as 'Officially Licensed', 'Original Edition' and '56 cards', and gives a manufacturer address in India (Vasai East, Maharashtra on Flipkart).
  • Check the print. Blurry artwork, flimsy paper-thin cards or spelling mistakes on the box suggest an unofficial print.
  • Buy from Bored Game Company's own site, its Amazon.in brand store, or a seller you can identify, and check the seller name before you pay.

Exploding Kittens is often copied in India. Marketplace and wholesale listings offer 'Exploding Kittens' decks from brands that have nothing to do with the publisher, such as one on IndiaMART at ₹499 a piece. A licensed Indian edition now costs around ₹1,000, so an unofficial copy doesn't save you much.

Questions people ask about Exploding Kittens

Is Exploding Kittens available in India?

Yes. Bored Game Company makes an officially licensed Indian edition of the Original Edition. It is sold on the company's own website, on Amazon.in and on Flipkart. Imported US copies also turn up at specialist stores, usually for more money.

What is 'Billi Boom Boom'?

'Billi Boom Boom' is the Indian nickname used on Bored Game Company's licensed edition, 'Exploding Kittens aka Billi Boom Boom'. The listings describe the same 56-card Original Edition for 2-5 players aged 7 and up.

Can 2 people play Exploding Kittens?

Yes, the Original Edition plays 2 to 5. With two or three players, the rules use fewer extra Defuse cards and fewer kittens in the deck. The publisher also makes a separate 2-Player Version.

The publisher rates the Original Edition for ages 7 and up, and the artwork is cartoonish. There is also a separate NSFW edition meant only for adults, so check the box before you buy for children.
