Outfoxed! is a cooperative mystery game for 2 to 4 players aged 5 and up. Everyone plays on one team of detectives, gathering clues to work out which of 16 fox suspects stole Mrs. Plumpert's pot pie before the thief escapes to its den. It suits families with children of about 5 to 8 who like a mystery but can't read much yet. In India it is sold only as an import on Amazon.in; none of the Indian stores we track had it on 5 October 2026.

Is Outfoxed! right for your table?

A good pick for

  • Children who get upset when they lose, because the whole table wins or loses together against the fox
  • Five- to eight-year-olds who are ready for simple logic: matching picture clues and crossing suspects off
  • Families who want a whodunit before their children are old enough for Cluedo, which is rated 8 and up and needs reading
  • A birthday gift for a child who loves detective stories

Skip it if

  • You want a game the adults will find challenging on their own. Once you know the rules, the deduction is simple
  • You don't want to pay import prices of around ₹5,000 for a children's game. None of the Indian stores we track had it in stock
  • Your child is under 5. Remembering which clues have turned up, and sitting through 20 minutes, may be too much for now; Hoot Owl Hoot! is the gentler co-op

How Outfoxed! plays

Sixteen fox suspect cards go face down around the edge of the board, and two are turned face up. One of 16 matching thief cards is slipped, unseen, into the clue decoder, a plastic gadget with a sliding window. Each player puts a detective-hat pawn in the middle of the board, and the fox figure waits at the start of its path to the foxhole.

On your turn, you first say out loud what you want to do: search for clues or reveal suspects. Then you roll the three dice up to three times, setting aside any that match. To search you need all three dice showing footprints, and to reveal you need all three showing eyes. If you haven't got them by the third roll, the fox runs three spaces closer to its den.

A successful search lets you move your detective as many spaces as the footprints you rolled. If you land on a paw-print space, you draw a clue marker showing an item such as a piece of clothing, slot it into the decoder and slide it open. The window shows whether the thief is wearing that item, and the team removes any suspects who no longer fit. Revealing simply turns over two more suspect cards to check against the clues already found.

You win by naming the right fox, or by narrowing the suspects down to one and checking it against the thief card in the decoder. You lose if you accuse the wrong fox or if the fox reaches the foxhole first. Once a family finds it easy, the rules suggest making the fox run four or even five spaces after each failed roll.

For a parent, the useful part is the talking. Because it is cooperative, players decide together whether to search or reveal and remind each other which clues have turned up, so a younger child can take part with help instead of falling behind. Gamewright pitches it as practice in paying attention to detail and judging the odds, such as whether to risk one more roll.

Takes about 5 minutes to teach. Nobody needs to read while playing. The clues are pictures of clothes and accessories that you match against the fox pictures on the suspect cards, and the dice show footprints and eyes instead of words. An adult reads the English rules leaflet once to teach it, and after that the game can be talked through in Hindi, Tamil or any language you speak at home.

Buying Outfoxed! in India

Every copy in India is imported. On 5 October 2026 none of the trusted stores we check had Outfoxed!: Toycra, Crossword, Hamleys, Tabletop Universe, Gameistry and Bored Game Company had no listing, and FirstCry's search results could not be read. Board Games India has an Outfoxed! page, filed under 'On demand', but its site blocks automated checks, so its price and stock are unknown. Amazon.in had it as an expensive import.

There is one edition to buy: Gamewright's Outfoxed! (item 418, barcode 0759751004187), in English, with a 2015 copyright in the rulebook. We found no Indian-made or Indian-licensed edition. Bored Game Company's old website once had an Outfoxed! page, but its current site and storefront search showed nothing on 5 October 2026. Gamewright's other cooperative games, such as Forbidden Desert, also reach India as imports, but they are aimed at older children.

How to make sure you get a genuine copy

Clone risk: Low
  • Look for the Gamewright logo and the name 'Outfoxed!', with its exclamation mark, on the box, along with Gamewright's item number 418 and barcode 0759751004187.
  • Check the contents: 16 suspect cards, 16 thief cards, 12 clue markers, 4 detective-hat pawns, 3 custom dice, a fox figure, the clue decoder and the board. The decoder is the heart of the game, so make sure it is there and its slider works.
  • On Amazon.in, check that the brand shown is Gamewright and see who the seller is before you pay. The listing title we saw did not always include the brand name.
  • Be wary of a new copy priced far below other listings. On 5 October 2026 the only Outfoxed! listing we found on Amazon.in was an expensive import.

We found no Outfoxed! look-alikes in three Amazon.in searches on 5 October 2026. The bigger risks are overpaying for an import and buying a second-hand copy with missing clue markers or a broken decoder.

Questions people ask about Outfoxed!

Is Outfoxed! available in India?

Only as an import. On 5 October 2026 Amazon.in had Gamewright's Outfoxed! as an expensive import, and none of the Indian specialist stores we check had it in stock. Board Games India has a page for it under 'On demand', but we could not read its price.

What age is Outfoxed! good for?

Gamewright says 5 and up. The clues are pictures, so children don't need to read, and because everyone is on one team, a younger sibling can join in on an adult's turn. Older children who find it easy can try the harder rule where the fox runs four or five spaces.

How is Outfoxed! different from Cluedo?

Both are whodunits, but in Outfoxed! everyone works together against the fox instead of competing, and the clues are pictures instead of written cards. Gamewright puts a game at about 20 minutes. Cluedo is rated 8 and up and is a competitive game.

Can two people play Outfoxed!?

Yes. It is made for 2 to 4 players, so one parent and one child can play. The rules don't change with the number of players, because everyone shares the same goal of catching the fox.
