Cluedo is Hasbro's murder-mystery board game for 2 to 6 players aged 8 and up. One suspect, one weapon and one room are hidden in an envelope, and you work out which by making suggestions and noting which cards other players show you. It suits families with children of 8 or more who enjoy a slow-building puzzle. In India, Hasbro sells the 2023 version under the Cluedo name (item F6420); it is the same game Americans call Clue.
Is Cluedo right for your table?
A good pick for
- Families with children aged 8 and up who like detective stories and puzzles
- Teaching careful note-taking and step-by-step elimination without it feeling like homework
- Groups of four to six on a holiday evening, when everyone has time for a 45-minute game
- A familiar gift for parents who played Cluedo themselves as children
Skip it if
- You want something quick, since a full game usually takes around 45 minutes or more
- Your group is mostly two players, because the two-player variant is a workaround rather than the main game
- Players dislike being knocked out, since a wrong accusation stops you taking turns for the rest of the game
How Cluedo plays
Before the game, one character card, one weapon card and one room card go secretly into the solve envelope. The rest are shuffled and dealt out. Everyone ticks off their own cards on a detective sheet, because those can't be in the envelope.
On your turn you roll the dice and move around the mansion, entering rooms through their doors. Corner rooms have secret passages to the opposite corner. In the 2023 edition, rolling the magnifying glass symbol counts as 1 and lets you draw a Clue card, which might open a passage or force someone to reveal a card.
When you are in a room you can make a suggestion, such as 'Professor Plum, in the library, with the rope'. The named character and weapon tokens move into that room. The player on your left must secretly show you one of those cards if they have it; if not, the next player checks, and so on. You mark what you are shown, and slowly the possible answers shrink.
When you think you know the answer, you make one accusation on your turn while in a room, then secretly check the envelope. If you are right, you win. If you are wrong, you put the cards back, stop taking turns and keep showing cards to others. If nobody guesses correctly, the murderer gets away.
For two players, Hasbro's rules have you place four of the leftover cards face down in rooms; you peek at a room's card when you enter it. The 2023 rules also let you stay in a room and make another suggestion there, which keeps the game moving.
Takes about 10 minutes to teach. Most of the game is names of suspects, weapons and rooms, which you tick off on a detective sheet. The 29 Clue cards have short English instructions that are read aloud, so younger players may need a little help with those.
Buying Cluedo in India
Cluedo is sold locally by Hasbro India. Toycra's listing gives India as the country of origin and Hasbro India Toys Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai as manufacturer/importer. On 5 October 2026 the F6420 box cost ₹1,145-1,299 at Indian stores. It was also sold on Amazon.in. Imported Clue editions on Amazon.in cost several times more, so the local box is the sensible buy unless you want a specific theme.
The recommended box is Hasbro's current Cluedo (item F6420, 2023), with Mayor Green, Chef White and Solicitor Peacock among the six suspects, gold-coloured metal weapons and 29 Clue cards. Other versions sold in India are different products: Clue Card Game (₹320 at Toycra, ₹304 at Crossword), a quick card-only version for 3-4 players; Clue Grab and Go (₹395 at Crossword), a small travel version; and Clue Conspiracy (₹2,045 at Toycra, ₹1,943 at Crossword), a hidden-role game for 4-10 players aged 14+. An older Funskool-made Cluedo is also sold on Amazon.in. Imported themed editions (Harry Potter, The Office, Retro 1986 and others) are imported and cost far more.
How to make sure you get a genuine copy
Clone risk: Low- The box should carry Hasbro Gaming branding and the Cluedo or Clue logo. Indian listings name Hasbro India Toys Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai. The current item number is F6420 and the barcode is 195166244266.
- Check the price. The genuine board game cost ₹1,145-1,299 on 5 October 2026. A 'Cluedo' at ₹300-400 is either Hasbro's smaller Clue Card Game or Grab and Go, or a copy.
- Check the contents against Hasbro's list: a gameboard, 6 character tokens, 6 weapon tokens, 50 cards (6 character, 6 weapon, 9 room and 29 Clue cards), a solve envelope, a notepad and 2 dice.
- Be careful with card-only 'Cluedo' listings from unknown brands, including some with garbled titles mixing English and Dutch, priced around ₹399. Hasbro's own card version is sold as 'Clue Card Game' under Hasbro Gaming.
Outright copies of the Cluedo board game are uncommon on Amazon.in. The bigger risk is buying the wrong product, such as the cheaper Clue Card Game or Grab and Go, or an expensive imported themed edition. A few card-only copies from unknown brands appear under the Cluedo name.

Questions people ask about Cluedo
Is Cluedo the same as Clue?
Yes. Clue is the North American name for the same game. Hasbro India sells it as Cluedo, though some Indian listings use both names. The rules and the hunt for who, where and what are the same.
Can two people play Cluedo?
Yes, the current box says 2-6 players. For two, Hasbro's rules have you place four leftover cards face down in rooms and look at them when you enter. It works, but the game is at its best with four to six players.
What changed in the new Cluedo?
The 2023 version (F6420) has new takes on the suspects, including Mayor Green, Chef White and Solicitor Peacock, and the victim is Boddy Black. Rolling a magnifying glass lets you draw one of 29 Clue cards, and you may stay in a room to make another suggestion. The basic who, where and what puzzle is unchanged.
What happens if you make a wrong accusation in Cluedo?
You put the cards back in the envelope without showing anyone and stop taking turns. You still have to show your cards when other players make suggestions. If no one makes a correct accusation, the murderer escapes.

- Play time: Hasbro's F6420 pages don't state one. The 45 minutes comes from Geeky Hobbies' rules summary, and the 60-minute upper figure is an estimate.
- Year and designer: Wikipedia says Anthony E. Pratt devised the game (his wife Elva Pratt helped with the design) and that Waddingtons first made it in the UK in 1949.
- The rules quoted are Hasbro's US English F6420 rules. The Cluedo-branded Indian pack may use slightly different weapon or room names. Toycra's photo of the box shows French text, so the Indian pack may be a multilingual international box; this wasn't confirmed.
- Amazon.in listing B0C641D51Y: the seller and whether the copy is locally stocked were not seen. Its MRP (₹1,499) is higher than Indian stores' compare-at prices (₹1,205-1,299).
- Hamleys' listing is titled 'Clue' and shows no item number. It is treated as F6420 because the page describes the reimagined edition (Boddy Black, Tudor Mansion).
- The image was checked only by text recognition, which read 'Classic Mystery' and 'Ages'. It wasn't viewed directly.
- Whether the older Funskool-made Cluedo on Amazon.in (B009REO484) is still being made was not checked.
- Box image is Toycra's photo of Hasbro's current Cluedo box (item F6420); its small tagline is in French, so the box sold in India may carry different wording.
