Rummikub is rummy played with numbered tiles instead of cards, for 2 to 4 players aged 7 and up. You lay down runs and groups, and you can rearrange the tiles already on the table to get rid of your own first. It suits Indian families who already play rummy with cards, because the idea feels familiar and no reading is needed. In India it is made and sold by Funskool, and the Classic set lists at ₹999.
Is Rummikub right for your table?
A good pick for
- Families who play rummy with cards on festival nights and want a fresh twist on it
- Mixed-language households, since the tiles carry only numbers and colours
- Grandparents and children from about 7 at the same table, with quiet number practice built in
- Couples, because it works well with just two players
Skip it if
- You need a game for more than four people (the standard Funskool box is for 2-4)
- Your group gets restless during long turns, since rearranging the table can take a while
- You want a game with a theme or a story, because Rummikub is pure numbers and colours
How Rummikub plays
The box holds 106 tiles: the numbers 1 to 13 in four colours, two of each, plus two jokers. Everyone turns the tiles face down and mixes them, then each player takes 14 tiles onto a rack. The rest stay face down as the pool. Each player draws one tile, and the highest number starts.
You play tiles in sets of at least three. A run is three or more numbers in a row in one colour, like a red 4-5-6 (a 1 cannot follow a 13). A group is three or four tiles of the same number in different colours.
Your first move must be sets from your own rack worth at least 30 points in total. Until you manage that, and on any turn when you cannot or do not want to play, you draw one tile from the pool and your turn ends.
Once you have made your first move, the whole table is open to you. You can add to any set, split a run, or move tiles from one set to another, as long as every set is valid when your turn ends. The official rules allow about one minute per turn, which keeps the game moving.
A joker can stand in for any tile, and you can win it back by replacing it with the real tile. The first player to empty their rack calls 'Rummikub' and wins the round. Everyone else loses the value of the tiles left on their rack (a joker costs 30 points), and the winner gains the total.
Takes about 10 minutes to teach. The tiles show only numbers and colours, so nobody needs to read during play. Only the rule sheet is in English, and one person can explain the rules in any language at the table.
Buying Rummikub in India
Rummikub is made in India by Funskool. Its product pages give India as the country of origin and Funskool India Ltd., Chennai as manufacturer, and the barcodes start with 890, India's GS1 prefix. On 5 October 2026 the Classic cost ₹999 at Funskool and Toycra and ₹1,499 at Hamleys. It is also sold on Amazon.in. Amazon.in had only imported US-made Pressman and other editions at several times the store price, so the Funskool box is the sensible buy unless you need six players or large-print tiles.
Funskool sells three versions in India. Rummikub Classic (item 4939100, ₹999) has 106 tiles, four racks and four rack holders. Rummikub Wooden Tiles (item 4939200, ₹1,399) has 106 wooden tiles, four wooden racks and metal rack holders. Rummikub Joy (item 4939300, ₹499) is a budget version with 106 cardboard tiles and four racks. All three are for 2-4 players. Imported editions on Amazon.in, such as Pressman's 6-player and large-number sets, cost several thousand rupees.
How to make sure you get a genuine copy
Clone risk: Medium- The box and listing should name Funskool and say 'The Original Rummikub'. Funskool's packs give Funskool India Ltd., Chennai as manufacturer and India as country of origin, and the box carries a BIS certification note.
- Check the price. On 5 October 2026 the Funskool Classic was ₹999 at Indian stores (also on Amazon.in), Wooden Tiles ₹1,399 and the cardboard-tile Joy ₹499. A 'Rummikub Classic' from an unknown brand, sold much cheaper, is not Funskool's.
- Watch for misspellings such as 'Rummiikub', 'Rumykub' or 'Rumiikub', and for generic tile sets that borrow Rummikub's 'Brings People Together' slogan. The slogan on its own proves nothing.
- Count the contents: 106 tiles (the numbers 1-13 in four colours, two of each, plus two jokers) and four racks. Funskool's Classic also includes four rack holders.
- Listings that claim to be the US Pressman edition for under ₹600 are doubtful, since genuine imported Pressman sets were priced above Indian stores.
Funskool's own Rummikub listing is easy to find on Amazon.in, near the top of the search results. Several listings from unknown brands copy its title word for word, misspell the name, or attach 'Rummikub' to generic tile sets. Generic 'rummy cube' tile sets sold under their own names are a legitimate product type, just not the official game.

Questions people ask about Rummikub
Is Rummikub the same as rummy?
It is based on the same idea of making runs and sets, but it uses numbered tiles instead of playing cards. There is no discard pile, and once you have made your first 30-point move you can rearrange any tiles already on the table. If you know rummy, the basic idea will feel familiar.
Which Funskool Rummikub should I buy: Classic, Wooden Tiles or Joy?
The Classic (₹999) is the standard set with 106 tiles, four racks and rack holders. The Wooden Tiles edition (₹1,399) plays the same way with wooden tiles and racks. Joy (₹499) is a budget version with cardboard tiles, which suits younger children or occasional play.
Is Funskool Rummikub the original game?
Yes. Funskool makes and sells it in India as 'The Original Rummikub', with the same 106-tile set and rules as the international game. Funskool's packs are made in India, which is why they cost far less than imported editions.
Can more than four people play Rummikub?
Not with the standard Funskool box, which is for 2-4 players. The official rules allow 5-6 players with a larger 160-tile set, and imported 6-player editions are sold on Amazon.in at import prices.

- Amazon match: exact link, high confidence. Listing title seen: "Original Rummikub Number, Classic Tile Game for Kids, 2-4 Players, Educational, Fun & Engaging, Perfect for Family Game Nights, Fast-Paced and Easy to Learn, Gift Set for Kids, Ages 7+ Years".
- How it was found: COMPOSIO_SEARCH_AMAZON on amazon.in, 2026-10-05: the queries 'Funskool Original Rummikub' and 'Funskool Rummikub' both returned B0BYRZHTWZ at position 1, ₹819 (MRP ₹999), 4.2 stars, 212 reviews, '100+ bought in past month'. Funskool's wooden-tiles edition appeared as B0CQVD67YZ at ₹1,259 (MRP ₹1,999), 4.3 stars, 139 reviews, '50+ bought in past month'. At least two listings from other brands copy B0BYRZHTWZ's title word for word at ₹499-589.
- Year: the official Rummikub site says only that Ephraim Hertzano developed the game 'back in the 50's'. 1950 stands for that decade, not an exact year. Wikipedia adds that it was a US bestseller by 1977 and that Lemada was founded in 1978.
- Play time: about 20 minutes or more was read (by OCR) from the time icon on Funskool's box image. The 60-minute upper figure is an estimate for a multi-round scored game, not a publisher figure.
- Funskool's licence terms were not seen. After the April 2026 Longshore acquisition, the Hertzano family said existing distributors and licensees would be respected, but Funskool was not named.
- Hamleys lists the Classic at ₹1,499, against ₹999 at Funskool and Toycra. It may be an older MRP or a different pack. Its listing title says 'The Original Rummikub Classic'.
- Funskool's older product page (item 4939100, ₹949) carries a word-game description that does not match Rummikub, so it was not used. The newer 'Rummikub Classic' page (₹999) was used instead.
- The model number of Amazon ASIN B0BYRZHTWZ was not visible. Funskool as the brand comes from the listing URL and a web search title.
- Funskool's own instruction sheet is a scanned PDF and could not be read. The rules here follow Rummikub's official English rules, and Funskool's printed sheet may differ slightly, for example on the turn timer.
- Age: Funskool and Toycra say 7+ for Joy, while Hamleys lists Joy as 6+.
- Toycra rate-limited the sandbox (HTTP 429). Toycra prices and stock come from its search API, read in the sandbox; barcodes and descriptions were read with WebFetch. FirstCry stock is inferred from a positive quantity (114) in its page data.
- Rummikub was not found at Tabletop Universe, Crossword or Skillmatics. Bored Game Company, Board Games India and Gameistry could not be searched reliably.
