The Mind is a small cooperative card game for 2 to 4 players aged 8 and up. The team tries to play numbered cards from 1 to 100 in rising order without talking, relying only on timing and each other's sense of when to play. It suits couples, friends and families who enjoy a shared challenge more than beating each other. It has no Indian edition and was hard to find here on 5 October 2026: the one trusted Indian store with a price had it out of stock, and Amazon.in's genuine listing is an expensive import.

Is The Mind right for your table?

A good pick for

  • Couples and pairs, since two players get the longest run of 12 levels
  • Mixed-language groups and grandparents, because there is nothing to read during play
  • A five-minute warm-up before a longer game, or a quiet game in a café or on a trip
  • Groups who prefer winning or losing together over competing

Skip it if

  • You have more than four players, since the box only supports 2-4
  • Your group finds silent, tense rounds stressful rather than fun
  • You want lots of decisions or strategy, as the game is mostly about timing and attention

How The Mind plays

The deck has cards numbered 1 to 100, and everyone plays as one team. In level 1 each player gets one card, in level 2 two cards, and so on. In each level the team must play every card in hand onto one pile in the middle, in rising order.

There are no turns. Whoever thinks they hold the lowest card still in play simply puts it down. You may not say anything about your cards or give secret signals, so a 3 gets played quickly while a 90 is held for a long time. Before each level everyone puts a hand on the table to focus, and anyone can say 'stop' to pause and refocus.

If someone plays a card while another player still holds a lower one, the team loses a life, and every card lower than the one just played is set aside. Then play carries on in the same level. The team starts with lives equal to the number of players and one throwing star.

Anyone can propose using a throwing star by raising a hand. If everyone agrees, each player discards their lowest card face up, which also tells the team a lot about where everyone stands. Clearing certain levels earns an extra life or throwing star, up to 5 lives and 3 stars.

The team wins by clearing every level: 12 levels with two players, 10 with three and 8 with four. If the last life is lost, everyone loses together. After a win, the rules suggest a harder 'blind' mode in which cards are played face down and checked at the end of each level.

Takes about 3 minutes to teach. The cards show only numbers, lives and throwing stars, and players may not talk about their cards during play. Only the rules need reading, and they fit on a page or two.

Buying The Mind in India

The Mind is not made or officially distributed in India, so every genuine copy here is imported. On 5 October 2026, Gameistry listed it at ₹1,500 but out of stock, Board Games India had a product page for an NSV edition (price not read), and Amazon.in had only imported copies priced above Indian stores. Toycra, Tabletop Universe, Crossword and Bored Game Company did not list it. Expect to wait for restocks or pay import prices.

The recommended product is the base game of The Mind, sold by NSV in Germany and in English by Pandasaurus Games. These versions play the same way, with 100 number cards, 12 level cards, lives and throwing stars. The Mind Extreme (2019) is a harder follow-up with two piles, one rising and one falling; NSV's version is listed on Amazon.in (B07ZWBMCHW) without a price. The Mind: Soulmates (2023), a team variant with a 'Seer', cost ₹5,523.50 on Amazon.in as a Pandasaurus import. None of these has an Indian edition.

How to make sure you get a genuine copy

Clone risk: High
  • The box should name Wolfgang Warsch and a real publisher: Nürnberger-Spielkarten-Verlag (NSV), Pandasaurus Games, or another licensed international publisher. Listings from unrelated brands are not the official game.
  • Check the price. Genuine imported copies cost about ₹1,500-2,500 in India on 5 October 2026. Listings at ₹460-530 that call themselves 'Award-Winning' with only a handful of reviews are very likely unlicensed.
  • Count the contents: the NSV rules list 100 number cards (1-100), 12 level cards, 5 life cards and 3 throwing star cards.
  • Be careful with 'The Mind Xtreme' or 'The Mind: Soulmates' from unknown brands at low prices. The genuine Soulmates was an expensive import on Amazon.in.

Because The Mind is just a deck of numbered cards with no Indian distributor, it is easy to copy. On Amazon.in, several cheap listings from a brand that does not publish the game use The Mind's name and description. Check the publisher's name, the seller, and that the price is in line with the Indian store prices given. A generic 1-100 deck lets you play the rules, but it is not the official game.

Questions people ask about The Mind

Is The Mind available in India?

Only as an import. On 5 October 2026 Gameistry listed it at ₹1,500 but out of stock, and Amazon.in had only imported copies priced above Indian stores. Cheap listings from unknown brands are not the official game.

Can you talk while playing The Mind?

You can't share anything about your cards: no numbers, hints or secret signals. You may say 'stop' to pause and refocus, and raise a hand to suggest using a throwing star.

Is The Mind good for two players?

Yes. The box is for 2-4 players, and with two you play the longest run of 12 levels, starting with two lives. With four players there are only 8 levels, but more people to stay in sync with.

What is the difference between The Mind and The Mind Extreme?

The Mind Extreme is a separate, harder game from 2019. Cards go onto two piles, one rising and one falling. Start with the original if you are new to it.

Prototype notes for review (won't appear on the live site)
  • Amazon match: exact link, medium confidence. Listing title seen: "Pandasaurus Games The Mind Card Gamefor Adult|Pack of 1".
  • How it was found: COMPOSIO_SEARCH_AMAZON on amazon.in, 2026-10-05. The queries 'The Mind card game' and 'Pandasaurus The Mind' returned B07C4F3KLF at ₹2,515.60, 4.5 stars, 6,700 reviews. The paise in the price and the large review count suggest an imported listing with ratings shared from abroad. The query 'The Mind card game Wolfgang Warsch' returned only NSV's The Mind Extreme (B07ZWBMCHW, no price shown), which is a different game. The 'Amazon's Choice' result for 'The Mind card game' (B0GD753TGD, ₹520, 6 reviews) and similar ₹460-999 listings come from a brand that is not The Mind's publisher, so they are not recommended.
  • Board Games India has a product page for an NSV edition (boardgamesindia.com/the-mind-nurnberger-spielkarten-verlag), but the page shows a bot check, so its price and stock were not read.
  • Bored Game Company's old product URL for The Mind now redirects to its general board-games listing, which suggests it no longer sells the game.
  • Gameistry's listing doesn't name the publisher or edition. A sticker on its box image reads roughly 'More than 1 Million Games sold' (by text recognition).
  • EAN is left empty because the edition sold in India varies. Pandasaurus's own site shows barcode 850029278023 for its current printing.
  • Play time: NSV's rules say about 20 minutes. The 15-25 minute range is an estimate around that figure.
  • The ₹460-999 Amazon.in listings using The Mind's name come from a brand that isn't one of the game's known publishers. They are treated as likely unlicensed, but no copy was examined.
  • The Amazon.in review count (6,700) is probably pooled from the US listing.
  • Awards: Wikipedia lists a 2018 Spiel des Jahres nomination and 2019 wins for France's As d'Or and Denmark's Årets Spil family-game awards. These are not repeated on the page.
