Dobble is a speed-spotting card game for 2 to 8 players aged 6 and up: any two cards share exactly one picture, and you race to find it and call it out first. It suits families, mixed-age groups and children's parties, because it takes a minute to explain and a round is over in a few minutes. Funskool has made it in India since 2023, so a genuine copy costs about ₹450–500 (MRP ₹469).

Is Dobble right for your table?

A good pick for

  • Mixed-age tables, because quick eyes matter more than age or experience
  • Birthday parties and cousins' get-togethers with up to 8 players
  • Filling ten spare minutes before dinner or while waiting at a station
  • Families with members who don't read English, since there are only pictures

Skip it if

  • Your group dislikes loud, shouting-out-answers games
  • You want a game with strategy or planning to it; Dobble is pure speed and observation
  • Your children are under 6, in which case Dobble Kids, with simpler animal cards, is the better pick

How Dobble plays

The deck has 55 round cards, and each card shows 8 pictures of everyday things, drawn in different sizes. The trick that makes the game work is that any two cards in the deck share exactly one picture, never more and never less.

There are no turns. Everyone plays at the same time, looking for the match between two cards. The first person to spot it says the picture's name out loud, and then takes, places or gets rid of a card, depending on which mini-game you are playing.

The rulebook has five mini-games. In The Towering Inferno you collect cards from a face-up pile in the middle, and whoever gathers the most wins. In The Well you start with a stack of cards and race to get rid of them all onto the middle card. In The Hot Potato and The Poisoned Gift you try to load your cards onto other players, and the person left with the fewest cards does best. In Gotta Catch Them All you race to grab cards that match a card in the centre.

Each mini-game lasts only a few minutes, so most groups play several in a row. Because the game rewards sharp eyes rather than knowledge, a quick seven-year-old can beat a parent, which is a big part of its appeal at family gatherings.

Takes about 2 minutes to teach. There is nothing to read on the cards, only pictures. You shout out the name of the matching picture, and nothing stops you naming it in Hindi, Tamil or English, so a grandparent calling out 'chabi' and a child calling out 'key' are both right. Only the rules leaflet needs reading, once.

Buying Dobble in India

Buy the Funskool edition unless you specifically want the tin. Funskool's product page gives India as the country of origin and Funskool India Ltd., Chennai as the manufacturer. On 5 October 2026 it cost ₹446 at Crossword and ₹499 at Toycra. The imported Asmodee tin costs about twice as much (₹999 at Toycra) for the same game. Hamleys lists a 'Funskool-Asmodee Dobble' at ₹849, but it was not clear which of the two versions it is.

Classic Dobble has 55 cards with 8 pictures each. In India there are two genuine versions. Funskool's Indian-made edition (product code 9409000, barcode 8901383940902, MRP ₹469) is sold at Crossword and Toycra. Asmodee's international tin (barcode 3558380010494) is sold by Toycra at ₹999. Spot It! is the North American name for the same game, and Spot It! packs on Amazon.in are imports priced above Indian stores. Funskool also makes Dobble Kids for younger children (product code 9409100, MRP ₹469) and Dobble Dinosaurs (MRP ₹469). Licensed themes such as Harry Potter, Marvel and Disney appear on Amazon.in as imports at several times the store price.

How to make sure you get a genuine copy

Clone risk: High
  • Check the name is spelled exactly 'Dobble'. Listings called 'Dobblee', 'DOB-ble', 'Dobbles' or 'Harry Dobbles', or anything sold as 'Spott It', are not the official game.
  • Check the price. Funskool's MRP is ₹469, and stores charged ₹446–499 on 5 October 2026. Unbranded 'Dobble' listings on Amazon.in are much cheaper look-alikes, well below what genuine copies sell for.
  • Look for Funskool's name with the Dobble and Asmodee branding, Funskool's Chennai address, 'Country of origin: India' and barcode 8901383940902. If it's the imported tin, the barcode starts with 3558380.
  • Look for the BIS standard mark on the pack. Funskool says it makes Dobble in BIS-certified factories, and toys sold in India are required to carry the mark.
  • Count the cards (there should be 55, each with 8 pictures) and test a few random pairs. In the real deck, every pair shares exactly one picture.

Dobble is just a deck of printed cards, so it is cheap to copy. On 5 October 2026, the top Amazon.in result for 'Spot It card game' was an unbranded 'Dobble' listing at a much cheaper price than Funskool's MRP, and we could not confirm who makes it.

Questions people ask about Dobble

Are Dobble and Spot It! the same game?

Yes. It is sold as Dobble in Europe and India and as Spot It! in North America. In India the Funskool-made Dobble is the cheapest genuine copy, while Spot It! packs on Amazon.in are imports priced above Indian stores.

Is Funskool Dobble original?

Yes. In October 2023 Funskool announced a partnership with Asmodee, which owns Dobble's publisher Zygomatic, to make and sell Dobble in India. Funskool's own product page lists the game (product code 9409000) with an MRP of ₹469 and India as the country of origin.

What age is Dobble suitable for?

The publisher says 6 and up, and adults enjoy it just as much. For children of around 4 to 6, Funskool also makes Dobble Kids, a simpler version with animal pictures, which has the same ₹469 MRP.

Why is Dobble so cheap on some Amazon.in listings?

Some listings sell 'Dobble' for ₹165–299 without naming Funskool or Asmodee as the brand. That is well below the ₹446–499 that genuine Funskool copies cost at Indian stores on 5 October 2026, and we could not confirm who makes those decks. Check the brand, the barcode and the spelling before you buy.

Prototype notes for review (won't appear on the live site)
  • Amazon match: exact link, medium confidence. Listing title seen: "Asmodee Kid's Dobble, Visual Perception Card Game (Multicolour, Ages 6 and Above, 2 to8 Players)".
  • How it was found: COMPOSIO_SEARCH_AMAZON on amazon.in, 5 October 2026, queries 'Dobble card game Asmodee', 'Spot It card game' and 'Funskool Dobble'. B0031QBHMA came up in all three with about 37,500 ratings (4.6) and '800+ bought in past month', far more than any other Dobble listing, but no price was shown in the results. The same ASIN is Asmodee's ASMDOBB01EN Dobble on Amazon UK, Singapore and UAE. The only other Funskool-named listings were for Dobble Kids (B0F6TNT2K4 at ₹459, MRP ₹499).
  • Price, seller and edition on Amazon.in listing B0031QBHMA. Search results showed no price, and Amazon pages were not opened, per policy. The title says 'Kid's Dobble' but describes the classic game (6+, 2-8 players).
  • Player count: Funskool's product page says '2 to 6', while Zygomatic, the rulebook, Toycra and Crossword say 2-8. players_max uses the publisher's 8.
  • Funskool's site shows an MRP of ₹469 but sends buyers to other retailers rather than selling directly, so stock is recorded as unknown. Toycra charges ₹499 for the same item (product code 9409000), possibly an older MRP.
  • Hamleys' 'Funskool-Asmodee Dobble' (₹849, in stock, 'country of origin: India') has item code 7042000, which matches Toycra's imported Asmodee tin SKU. Which version Hamleys actually ships was not confirmed.
  • Packaging of the Funskool edition (tin or card box) and the language of its rules leaflet were not confirmed.
  • The product image is Toycra's featured image for the Funskool edition. It was checked only by automated means and was not visually confirmed to be a box front.
  • Who makes the low-priced Amazon.in listings (₹165–299) was not confirmed. That includes two titled with Asmodee's name: 'Asmodee Dobble Card Game' at ₹199 (B0HLQ5BYN9) and 'Asmodee, Dobble Classic (Eco-Sleeve) ... German' at ₹275 (B0CDK1XXV1, about 1,700 ratings).
  • Board Games India listed only Dobble Connect, not classic Dobble, and no Dobble page was found on Bored Game Company's current site.
  • The BIS-mark advice relies on Funskool's statement about its BIS-certified factories and on the general Indian rule for toys. A physical pack was not checked.
