Monopoly Deal is Hasbro's card-game version of Monopoly for 2 to 5 players aged 8 and up. You race to lay down three complete property sets while charging rent and stealing from each other, and a game usually takes 15 to 20 minutes. It suits families and friends who like Monopoly's deal-making but not its three-hour games, and at around ₹300 for the Indian-made pack it is one of the cheapest genuine games to buy here.

Is Monopoly Deal right for your table?

A good pick for

  • Monopoly fans who want the same feel in 15 minutes instead of an afternoon
  • Train journeys, hotel rooms and holidays, since it is just a small deck of cards
  • Cousins and teenagers who enjoy stealing from each other and planning a comeback
  • A cheap add-on gift or return gift, since the genuine pack costs about ₹300

Skip it if

  • Your group gets upset when someone takes a whole set from them, because Deal Breaker cards do exactly that
  • You want a game with no luck, since the cards you draw matter a lot
  • Your players are under 8 and can't yet read the action cards

How Monopoly Deal plays

Everyone starts with five cards. On your turn you draw two cards (five if your hand was empty) and then play up to three cards. The first player to lay out three complete property sets, each in a different colour, wins.

There are three ways to play a card. Money cards, and action cards you don't need, go face up into your personal Bank. Property cards go into your property collection in front of you, and they can never be banked. Action cards can be played for their effect and then discarded. At the end of your turn you may hold at most seven cards.

The action cards drive the game. Rent cards charge other players for a colour you own, and Double the Rent makes that charge bigger. Cards such as It's Your Birthday make other players pay you. Sly Deal steals a single property, Forced Deal swaps one, and Deal Breaker takes a complete set. Just Say No cancels an action played against you. House and hotel cards raise the rent on a finished set.

When you owe money, you choose what to hand over from your Bank or your properties on the table, but never from your hand. There is no change, so if you only have a 5 in the bank and owe 2, you lose the 5. If you can't cover the debt, you pay what you can, and if you have nothing, nothing happens.

Because properties can be stolen, a player who looks close to winning is the natural target. Keeping some money in the Bank and saving a Just Say No for the right moment is how most comebacks happen.

Takes about 10 minutes to teach. Property and money cards need almost no reading, but each action card carries a short English instruction such as 'Sly Deal' or 'Just Say No'. New players may need help with these for the first game. Hasbro India also sells Monopoly Deal in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

Buying Monopoly Deal in India

Monopoly Deal is sold locally by Hasbro India, and Toycra and FirstCry both give India as the country of origin, with the same BIS licence number (CM/L-6200195107). On 5 October 2026 the pack cost ₹288-320 at Indian stores and was also sold on Amazon.in. One Amazon.in listing is an expensive import, so check the price before you add it to the cart.

The recommended pack is Hasbro's standard English Monopoly Deal (item G0351, 110 cards). Hasbro India also sells it in Hindi (₹285 at Crossword), Tamil and Telugu (listed at Hamleys). Themed versions play the same way: Monopoly Deal Harry Potter (₹352 at Crossword; ₹370 at Toycra, out of stock) and Monopoly Deal: Kpop Demon Hunters. Monopoly Deal No Mercy (Hamleys lists it for ages 16+) adds harsher cards. Monopoly Bid (₹304 at Crossword) is a different card game. Imported tins and licensed editions (FIFA, Stitch, Fourth Wing, Big Deal) cost far more on Amazon.in.

How to make sure you get a genuine copy

Clone risk: Medium
  • The box should carry the Monopoly and Hasbro Gaming logos and name Hasbro India Toys Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai. The current pack's item number is G0351 and its barcode is 195166257631.
  • Look for a BIS mark on the box. Indian listings of the genuine pack show BIS licence CM/L-6200195107.
  • Count the cards: the genuine deck has 110 cards, made up of property cards, wild property cards, action cards, rent cards, money cards and a few reference cards.
  • Watch the listing name and brand. Copies on Amazon.in use spellings like 'Monopoliyo Deal' or titles like 'Deal Card Game ... Monopoly Playing Card Game' from unrelated brands, at ₹98-399.
  • The genuine game is already cheap (₹256-320), so price alone won't catch a copy. A listing with almost no reviews and a brand other than Hasbro or Monopoly is the stronger warning sign.

Copies are common because the genuine game is a small, cheap deck. On Amazon.in, several listings from unknown brands use 'Deal' or a misspelled 'Monopoly' in the title. The genuine Hasbro listing is easy to find: check the brand and publisher name, the seller, and that the price is in line with Indian store prices.

Questions people ask about Monopoly Deal

Is Monopoly Deal the same as Monopoly?

No. It uses Monopoly's properties, rent and money, but it is a card game with no board or dice. You win by completing three property sets of different colours, and a game takes about 15-20 minutes instead of hours.

Can two people play Monopoly Deal?

Yes, the box says 2 to 5 players. Two-player games work but can swing sharply when a Deal Breaker takes a full set. With three to five players there are more targets, so attacks are spread out.

Is Monopoly Deal available in Hindi?

Yes. Hasbro India sells Hindi, Tamil and Telugu editions alongside the English one. The Hindi pack cost ₹285 at Crossword on 5 October 2026 and was also sold on Amazon.in. Check the language on the box before you order.

Do you get change in Monopoly Deal?

No. Hasbro's rules say there is no change, so if you owe 2 and only have a 5 in your Bank, you pay the 5. You choose what to pay with, from your Bank or your properties on the table, but never from your hand.

  • Amazon match: exact link, high confidence. Listing title seen: "Monopoly Deal Card Game | Quick-Playing Card Game | Fun Games for Families and Kids | Ages 8 and Up | 2 to 5 Players | 15 Mins. | Travel Games | Birthday Gift for Kids".
  • How it was found: COMPOSIO_SEARCH_AMAZON on amazon.in, 2026-10-05. The query 'Monopoly Deal' returned B0CPXCDG65 with the badge 'Amazon's Choice for "Monopoly Deal"' at ₹256 (MRP ₹349), 4.5 stars, 1,100 reviews, '800+ bought in past month'. It was also the top Monopoly Deal result for 'Hasbro Monopoly Deal card game'. The ₹349 MRP matches the compare-at price on Toycra's Hasbro India listing. Other genuine Hasbro listings seen: B00NQQTZCO 'Hasbro Gaming Monopoly Deal Card Game' at ₹2,210.68 with 35,100 reviews (US-style import listing), Hindi edition B08TWR3HQR at ₹199 and Tamil edition B0B259YVGY at ₹199.
  • Designer: Hasbro's rules and the Indian listings don't credit a designer, so the designers list is left empty.
  • Year: 2008 comes from Wikipedia and the '© 1935, 2008 Hasbro' line on an older Hasbro rules sheet. Wikipedia names Cartamundi as the original publisher under licence from Hasbro. Current Indian packs name Hasbro India.
  • FirstCry's listing shows no item number. It is treated as the same pack because it gives India as country of origin and the same BIS licence (6200195107) as Toycra's G0351 listing. The ₹288 price is the ₹320 MRP less FirstCry's listed 10% discount. Stock status wasn't clear from the page.
  • Play time: Hasbro says 'as little as 15 minutes'. The 30-minute upper figure is an estimate for slower or five-player games.
  • Crossword's description of the Hindi edition says its properties use Indian city names. This was not checked against the cards.
  • Amazon.in review counts may be pooled with other listings of the same product.
